GREAT Scholarships in UK Update - International Students

The GREAT Scholarships are a set of prestigious scholarships awarded annually to students from selected countries who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. 

The scholarship program is sponsored by the British Council in partnership with UK universities and is aimed at promoting higher education opportunities in the UK for international students.

Brief Overview

GREAT Scholarships provide students from 14 different countries with the opportunity to receive £10,000 towards tuition expenses for a variety of one-year taught postgraduate programmes.

There are currently ten participating UK universities, offering a range of scholarships in various fields of study. Each scholarship is worth between £10,000 and £20,000 and covers tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of the course.

Master's degree programs that are eligible are offered by partnering universities (check the university page to check the specific courses being funded)

Interested students can reach out to the British Council or the participating universities directly for more information on the scholarship program. Scholarship amount/duration:

Students from the following countries: Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam

The award pays £10,000 of their tuition fees for one year.


Eligibility:

You must be a citizen of one of the participating countries (see above). You must have an undergraduate degree, be motivated, and be interested in the chosen topic area. You must meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI.

To be eligible for a GREAT scholarship, applicants must be citizens of one of the participating countries, have an offer to study a full-time postgraduate course at a participating UK university, and meet the academic and English language requirements of the university.

The participating countries and universities for the 2022-23 academic year are as follows:

  • China: University of Birmingham, University of Edinburgh, University of Essex, University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, University of Southampton, and University of York.
  • India: Cardiff University, Cranfield University, Durham University, Lancaster University, Queen's University Belfast, Robert Gordon University, University of East Anglia, University of Strathclyde, University of Warwick, and University of York.
  • Indonesia: University of Birmingham, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham, and University of Sheffield.
  • Kenya: Cardiff University, Durham University, Queen's University Belfast, University of Aberdeen, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow, University of Stirling, and University of Strathclyde.
  • Malaysia: University of Birmingham, University of Dundee, University of Essex, University of Glasgow, University of Reading, University of Sheffield, and University of Warwick.
  • Mexico: University of Birmingham, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Kent, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, and University of Southampton.
  • Pakistan: University of Birmingham, Cardiff University, Durham University, Queen's University Belfast, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Warwick, and University of York.
  • Thailand: University of Birmingham, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Kent, University of Nottingham, and University of Southampton.
  • Turkey: University of Edinburgh, University of Essex, University of Glasgow, University of Kent, University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, and University of Warwick.
  • Vietnam: University of Birmingham, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham, and University of Southampton.
