Fully-Funded Rotary Peace Fellowships

Rotary Peace Fellowships are fully-funded scholarships awarded by Rotary International to individuals who are committed to working for peace and social change. These fellowships cover all expenses related to tuition, fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and internship/field study expenses.

The Rotary Peace Fellowship program offers two types of fellowships:

  • Master’s degree fellowship: This fellowship is for individuals who want to pursue a master’s degree in fields related to peace and conflict resolution at one of the Rotary Peace Centers located in partner universities around the world.
  • Professional development certificate fellowship: This fellowship is for individuals who are already working in the field of peace and conflict resolution and want to enhance their skills and knowledge by participating in a three-month professional development certificate program at one of the Rotary Peace Centers.

     Scholarship description

Each year, Rotary selects up to 90 peace and development leaders from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships to pursue a Professional Development Certificate Program or Masters Degree Program in peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the world's participating peace centers (USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Sweden, Uganda)


        Host Institution(s):

•  , USA: Master of International Development Policy Program (MIDP) or various degrees offered by the University of North Carolina

•  , Japan: Master’s Degree in Peace Studies

•  , England: Advanced Practice in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution MA

•  , Australia: Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (MPACS)

•  , Sweden: Peace and Conflict Studies (MS.Sc.)

• Makerere University, Uganda (certificate program): Post-Graduate Diploma in Peace and Development Studies


Hot Tip: Fellowship awardees are not permitted to study at a Rotary Peace Center in their home country, with the exception of Ugandan candidates who may attend Makerere University's Peace Center.


Level/subject of study:

Professional Development Certificate Programs or Master's Degree Programs in subjects linked to conflict resolution and prevention are available.


Group to target:

Leaders in global peace and development with an undergraduate degree who meet the eligibility requirements.


Scholarships awarded:

Up to 50 fellowships for master's degree and 40 for certificate courses are offered each year.


Scholarship worth and inclusions:

Tuition and fees, lodging and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses are completely covered by the fellowships.


Eligibility:

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is intended for professionals with experience in international development, peace and conflict prevention and resolution, or both. In addition, applicants must meet the following criteria:


• Have three years of related job experience for the master's program.

• Have five years of related professional experience for the certificate program and be able to describe how their goal to promote peace corresponds with Rotary's mission. 

(Candidates for Makerere University must be from Africa, have worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside of the continent.)


• English proficiency (Master's candidates whose first language is not English must present English language standardized test scores.)

• Hold a bachelor's degree (Master's candidates must produce a copy of their transcripts).

• Show leadership abilities

• Have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace work in Africa, or engage with African communities or initiatives outside of the continent.


Application guidelines:

The deadline for candidates to apply to their Rotary district is May 15, 2023.


       Applications for the Rotary Peace Fellowship are usually due in May or June of each year, with               interviews and selection taking place in the following months. Interested individuals should visit             the Rotary International website for more information and to apply.
