Your demonstrated financial need will be taken into account when determining the value of the Award, which will be enough to pay for your degree's tuition as well as living expenses.
If you maintain a satisfactory academic standing in your department, continue to demonstrate financial need, and maintain your Canadian study permit, the Award may be renewed for up to three more years of undergraduate study or until you complete your degree, whichever comes first (student visa).
Eligibility
In order to be taken into account for the Donald A. Wehrung Award:
• You must be an international student who has been granted a Canadian study permit and who will be attending school in Canada.
• You must transfer from your first year of a post-secondary college or another university, or you must have graduated from an accredited high school to be eligible to enroll at UBC.
• No sooner than June of the two years preceding the academic year for which you are applying, you must have completed high school. Applications for 2024, for instance, must have been completed no earlier than 2023.
• You have to be attempting to obtain your first undergraduate degree.
• You need to show that you've made progress in your academics (achieve all As or equivalent standard).
• You must meet UBC's entrance standards, including general and degree-specific requirements as well as the English Language Admission Standard.
• You must show a level of financial need that would otherwise preclude you from obtaining a UBC degree.

You need to provide a reference from an academic referee together with your application to the International Scholars program if you want to be considered. Make sure your institution or nonprofit is authorized to nominate you, and let your academic referee and nominator know that you plan to apply to the International Scholars Program.
You must submit your application for admission to UBC by 1 December and your application for the International Scholars Program by 15 November, respectively. By January 31st, you must have the necessary English language proficiency for admission to UBC.
