Brief description

Students from outside of Switzerland who are interested in pursuing a Master's Degree at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland are eligible for consideration for the UNIL Master's Grants, which are awarded on a competitive basis.

All of the Master's programs that are currently being offered by the UNIL, with the following exceptions:


• Graduate of the School of Medicine with a Master's Degree


• Holds a Master's Degree in Teaching


• The degree of Master of Law*


• A master's degree in criminal law with a concentration in magistrature


• Master of Science in Athletic Coaching and Physical Education


• A Master of Science degree in one of the health-related fields


• Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Environmentally Responsible Business and Technology


• All MASs (PhD programmes)


(*) Only two areas of concentration for the Master of Law degree—"international and comparative law" and "legal theory"—are eligible for applications for masters' degrees in the form of scholarships.

Scholarship amount and time commitment

The scholarship is awarded for the minimum required number of academic years associated with the program that the student intends to pursue. 

It comes out to a total of CHF 1,600 per month from September 15th through July 15th (or 10 months a year) for the entire duration of the masters program (one and a half years or two years depending on the masters program chosen), with the exception of situations in which the student fails the program for good after the first year.

The fixed registration fees for the courses will not need to be paid by students who have been given a scholarship; however, the CHF 80.00 fees that are due each semester will still need to be covered.


Eligibility

• To have graduated from an overseas college or university with a degree that UNIL recognizes as being equivalent to a bachelor's degree prior to enrolling in a master's program at UNIL.


• To have distinguished oneself during the course of one's studies, most notably by achieving exceptionally outstanding academic accomplishments.


• To have a language level of at least B2 (according to the European Language Portfolio worldwide scale) in French or English, depending on the language in which your selected masters is taught. This requirement is in accordance with the European Language Portfolio.


• To not have previously had a registration with UNIL in any capacity.


• To have paid the administrative charge of CHF 200.00 (see the paper under "list of documents to attach to your application" for further information).


Instructions for submitting an application:

You are NOT need to submit an application to the Admissions Department in order to be considered for admission to the master's degree program (SII). 

Candidates are needed to post their completed applications along with all of the required documentation to the university's address. 

The applications and documents should not be bound.


The 1st of November is the cutoff date for applications if you want to start a master's degree program during the following academic year, either in the fall semester or the spring semester if the program allows it. 

The date of mailing can be deduced from the postmark.
