Brief Overview

The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is intended for exceptionally talented international students who want to study for a bachelor's degree in the US and who are committed to bringing about positive societal and civic change. It is designed for students who will be going back to their home country to help underdeveloped, underserved communities there.

Goal group:

The scholarships are intended for international students from any nation who do not hold dual citizenship with the United States or any other nation, nor are they lawful permanent residents of the United States.


Value, components, and length of scholarship:

All billable AU expenses are covered by the AU EGL scholarship (full tuition, room and board). 

The scholarship does not pay for non-billable costs such required health insurance, books, airfare, or other incidental costs (around US $4,000).

Based on ongoing excellent academic achievement, it is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate education.


Eligibility

In order of preference,


Students from varied and underrepresented cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as international students who have surmounted a variety of difficulties.

In the top 10% of the graduating class, or a minimum GPA equivalent of 3.8, for grades 9 through 12.

A provable dedication to leadership, voluntarism, community service, and furthering the needs of citizens in their own country.

Those students that have one of the following: 95+ TOEFL iBT (all subscores must be 20 or above); sub-scores of 24 or more on the paper-based TOEFL (taken after May 31, 2017); 7.0+ IELTS (all subscores must be 6.0 or above; 33 minimum SAT Reading Subscore; 29 minimum ACT English; 65 minimum PTE; 120+ Duolingo (all subscores must be 110 or above); or a Cambridge Assessment English score of 185 or A sub-score of 169 or more is required for each.

Students who will graduate by June 2023 but are currently enrolled in secondary or high school.

Important: IB students should aim to graduate with a full IB diploma that includes at least three HL topics. Before August 2023, students enrolled in the British A-Levels system must complete 13 years of education and at least three A levels.


You ARE NOT qualified to apply if

- You have citizenship in both the United States and another nation, or you are a permanent resident of the United States.

- You have already started or are currently enrolled in any post-secondary study at another university in your own country or the United States.

- Your high school graduation date was before 2021.


Instructions for use:

The priority deadline for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is December 15, 2021, however you must submit your application for the scholarship as well as the Common or Coalition Application and foreign admissions by January 15, 2023, at the latest. 

AU EGLS candidates must submit a Regular Decision application for the fall (August) of 2023. Refrain from applying Early Decision (ED).
