Brief description
The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award is given to undergraduate international students who have excelled not just academically but also in the fields of leadership, involvement in student activities and community service, and recognized excellence in other important areas of study.

Scholarship benefits and requirements
Your level of financial hardship will determine how much of a monetary benefit you receive from the Karen McKellin Award for an International Leader of Tomorrow.
The sum of your annual financial contribution, less the amount that you and your family are able to contribute toward your education and living expenses, is used to calculate your level of financial need.
Standard needs assessment will consider the facts regarding your family's finances that you and your family offer.
If you maintain a satisfactory academic standing in your faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and keep your Canadian study permit, your award may be renewed for up to three further years of undergraduate study, or until you have completed your degree, whichever comes first (student visa).
Eligibility
The following qualifications must be met in order to be considered for the Karen McKellin Award for the International Leader of Tomorrow:
• You are need to be an international student who will be attending a school in Canada on a study permit issued by the Canadian government.
• You must have graduated from a secondary school that is recognized in the province of British Columbia or be transferring to UBC after completing your first year at a post-secondary college or another university.
• You must have graduated from high school no sooner than the month of June two years before to the academic year to which you are applying. This means that you cannot have graduated from high school earlier than this. To qualify for the year 2022 program, for instance, applicants must have received their high school diploma no earlier than June 2020.
• This should be your very first attempt at getting into an undergraduate program.
• You must exhibit outstanding academic achievement (achieve all As or equivalent standard).
• You are required to demonstrate a level of financial need that, if not met, would preclude you from obtaining a degree from the University of British Columbia.
• In order to be accepted into UBC's program, you will need to demonstrate that you satisfy all of the requirements, both general and degree-specific, as well as the English Language Admission Standard.
Instructions for submitting an application
The application period for the school year 2022 has come to an end. Applications for the year 2023 will soon be available.
To be eligible for the International Scholars program, you need to have your school or a non-profit organization put in a nomination for you, and you need to provide a reference from an academic referee.
Confirm that your current institution or organization is able to nominate you for the International Scholars Program, and let your potential nominator and academic referee know that you want to submit an application for the program.
You have until November 15 to submit your application for the grant as well as finish the online application for admission to UBC. You have until January 31 to demonstrate that you satisfy the English Language Admission Requirement at UBC.
