Emile Boutmy Scholarships for Non-EU Students at Sciences Po

Paris-born political scientist and sociologist Emile Boutmy lived from 13 April 1835 to 25 January 1906. He attended law school in Paris and, from 1867 to 1870, lectured at the École Spéciale d'Architecture on the history and culture of civilizations as they related to architecture.  He established the Ecole Libre des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in 1872 alongside notable industrialists and academics such as Hippolyte Taine, Ernest Renan, Albert Sorel, and Pierre Paul Leroy-Beaulieu after being disturbed by the ignorance and disinterest in political concerns he saw during the Paris Commune. Sciences Po Emile Boutmy taught courses on the English, French, and American constitutional histories from 1873 through 1890.  He was made a member of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques in 1879.
